Kirsi features a 35 kW solar panel system on the roof and a 70 kWh energy storage system in the basement, allowing surplus energy to be stored for later use. This is a solution that no other apartment building developer in Estonia has offered before. Solar energy, together with electricity purchased from the grid during off-peak hours when prices are lower, is stored in the building’s energy storage system and used during peak periods when electricity is at its most expensive. The result is low and predictable electricity costs throughout the year. You do not have to monitor or manage anything yourself. The system works quietly in the background for you.
At Kirsi, refurbishment means retaining the existing load-bearing structure of the building. Everything else – utility systems, insulation, windows, balconies, interior finishes, layouts and exterior appearance – is entirely new. No compromises have been made on quality. This approach saves 969 tonnes of CO₂ compared with constructing a completely new apartment building on the same site. By making the most of the existing structure, we leave a smaller environmental footprint without compromising on any of the benefits a new-build would offer.
